Financial Counseling services

Financial Counseling services begin when you schedule an individual or joint (marital couples) appointment for the purpose of conducting an assessment of your current financial situation, an income to expense comparison, and identification of both short and long term goals.  Spending plans (or more commonly known as budgets) can be newly developed or your existing budget can be evaluated for effective use of income.  Resource and referral sources may be identified and provided, or assistance in establishing a savings, investment, or retirement plan which meets your individual needs.  Consumer’s may also desire guidance and information on preparation for major purchases such as a home or automobile; goal setting, credit worthiness & reporting bureaus, future relocation expenses, or any other situation which could impact your family’s finances.  Individuals may either be self-referred or involuntary referred by their Unit Commanders or designated representative.

Debit Liquidation Program

The Debt Liquidation Program (DLP) is structured to provide an alternative  means for an individual to establish a regular repayment program for their outstanding debts (i.e., credit cards, collection agencies, delinquent utilities, etc).  Our DLP acts as the mediator and negotiator with the creditors. Debt Liquidation

or Debt Management programs should be considered an alternative means for consumer’s who prefer not to file Bankruptcy.

The DLP is similar to a Consumer Credit Counseling Center and is provided free-of-charge to eligible military beneficiaries.  Only customers who are officially enrolled into the Financial Counseling Services can be considered for the Debt Liquidation Program.  Enrollment criteria require sufficient income to meet basic living expenses and provide moderate payments to the creditors.

Military members who receive a military pay adjustment (DD Form 139) for a delinquent Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) Deferred Payment Plan (DPP) are generally referred to us by AAFES.  We will assist in completing a financial evaluation and repayment plan, which is required prior to the collection process being suspended.

If your financial situation is not severe or you prefer to “consolidate” your monthly creditor payments, you should consider civilian credit counseling agencies and on-line services.  For your convenience they are listed under our helpful links (link page to helpful hints section).
