Loan Closet – For temporary loan (usually up to 2 weeks) of
small household items and other relocation items. Kitchen
Loaner Kits (necessary kitchen items), appliance packs
(toasters, iron, and coffeemakers), linen packs (sheets,
blankets, and towels), and air mattresses (with an attached
pump) are available for use by incoming and outgoing service
members and their families. Car seats, cribs, high chairs,
vacuums, and strollers are also available. Units located 50
or more miles from the Detroit Arsenal (DTA), who are
supported by the U.S. Army Garrison-Detroit Arsenal (DTA)
may be able to utilize the Loan Closet Outreach Program,
which allows specific loaner items to be placed in the unit
(on site) for distribution to incoming service members.
Program availability is based on funding and the unit’s
geographical location. Inquire about the program at the
above address and phone number. Loan Closet items are
issued on a first come, first serve basis. It is advised to
call ahead to allow us to check item availability and to
have allow us to have your items ready for pick-up.
Newcomer’s Briefing –
being updated to reflect the changes from the implementation
of the Base Realignment and Closure Law. Contact the
Relocation Program if you should require a Newcomer’s
Briefing are held on an individual basis by appointment.

Smooth Moves (Pre-move) Briefing
– Prepares service and family members of all branches for
their next PCS move (departing the Detroit Arsenal or
Selfridge). Smooth Move Briefings are designed to provide
departing Service Members and families with vital
information prior to their next CONUS and OCONUS assignment.
This briefing is mandatory for all Army E-4 and below
personnel. Spouses are welcome and encouraged to attend..

Building 230, Room 1260. Briefings are held on an individual basis.

Welcome Packet
– Provides general and specific installation information to
individuals who are moving to the Detroit Arsenal. Packet
includes brochures and booklets pertaining to events,
programs, and services in around the Detroit Arsenal
and Selfridge. There are also maps and information on the availability of a variety of
facilities and services at the Detroit Arsenal.
Relocation Assistance Coordinating Committee (RACC)
– Comprised of installation relocation service providers
charged with monitoring, evaluating, and updating the
relocation service delivery system. Community members who
have identified problems or have suggestions related to the
Detroit Arsenal’s relocation process should contact the RACC
POC located in Building 230, Room 1260 or phone (586)
282-0485/0489 to
have their concerns brought to the RACC’s attention.
Hearts Apart (Waiting Family) Program
– Assists families of deployed service members or families
who are geographically separated due to an unaccompanied
tour of duty or repatriation. Registration or notification
is required. Provides personalized assistance and close
monitoring of family members to ensure resolution of
problems, provide necessary information, and make referrals
to appropriate agencies or other resources.
PLAN MY MOVE (PMM) –
Provides current relocation information via a computerized
database of all branches’ military installations worldwide.
Can be accessed on line at
http://militaryhomefront.dod.mil. An interactive
calendar to help you plan your move 90 days in advance and
cost calculators are available at this site. Contact the
Relocation Readiness Program to request a printed PMM
book for a specific installation.
Relocation Counseling –
Counsels service members and their families on preparations
for their next PCS move. Counseling sessions reduce the
stressors associated with relocating and ensure families and
sponsors are knowledgeable about the relocation process.
Appointment basis only.
Foreign Born Spouses Assistance –
Teaches and enhances foreign born spouses to learn or
enhance their English skills through English-as-a-Second
Language (ESL) classes or workshops. The classes are offered
at Macomb Community College

Sponsorship Assistance –
Assists unit sponsors with Welcome Packets, special
information requests, and sponsorship duty information upon
request. Service members must request a sponsor through
their current or gaining Unit Training office. Requests may
be made online or via email at some units. Check
installation Web Pages or Family Services Offices to see if
your gaining unit can assign a sponsor online or via Email.

Program. Civilians may request a sponsor through their
gaining organization supervisor.
Housing Assistance – Due to the BRAC law there are no
government quarters at Selfridge, nor is housing available
at the Detroit Arsenal. For
PCSing out of the Detroit area, Army Housing information for
Government quarters worldwide is available on the web at
